Dr. Rubenstein believes that life transitions provide a unique opportunity for self discovery and personal growth. She works with patients experiencing a range of life transitions including adjustment to college, making a commitment, getting engaged, marriage, pregnancy, miscarriage, adjustment to parenthood, break ups, divorce, adjustment to serious medical illness and loss of a loved one using a range of techniques including CBT, EMDR and mindfulness.
Dr. Rubenstein thoughtfully incorporates customized mindfulness and meditation techniques throughout therapy by consulting with patients to find the most appropriate techniques for their personality and needs. Dr. Rubenstein has over 20 years of experience with mindfulness practice drawing from her training in techniques such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Transcendental Meditation (TM), and Shambhala (a branch of Tibetan Buddhism), as well as her own mindfulness journey and daily practice.
Dr. Rubenstein trained in Attachment Focused EMDR, an evidence based treatment for PTSD. In addition to the treatment of PTSD, EMDR is also used to treat the psychological effects of smaller traumas that manifest in symptoms of depression, anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem, creativity blocks, and relationship difficulties. Not only does healing occur much more rapidly than in traditional therapy, but as a result of EMDR’s clearing of emotional and physical blockages, many people also experience a sense of joy, openness, and deep connection with others. EMDR is a quantum leap in the human ability to heal trauma and maladaptive beliefs.
